Disappointment

Disappointment

Living a healthy life isn’t just about what you eat.  Your mental and spiritual health are equally important. People often underestimate the power of daily thoughts and their impact on overall health. Do you feel you are always beating yourself up when you do something wrong? If someone does something you don’t agree with do you freak out and become angry?

Let’s just get something out of the way, people WILL disappoint you. Period.  Heck, you will even disappoint yourself from time to time. The good news is, that’s not the end of your story.  You are not a failure of your own disappointment unless you never “get back up” again.   So for all of you reading this that feel like you failed yourself, know that you can get back up and you can try again. Don’t let disappoint mentally get you down. We are all sinners. We have all failed.

Our pastor said this at church this week and I couldn’t agree more.

“Rejection is God’s protection and redirection.”

Think about this. Really think about it. Next time you have disappointment in your life know that this could be God protecting you from something down the line or redirecting you down another path. Losing two young friends to cancer was devastating, but it took me down this path of wellness. Those experiences gave me the courage and power to believe in myself. The path of wellness cleared my mind and opened my eyes to the important things in life. It allows me to feel well and do well for others. Before I had little energy to do so.

Another example that disappoint could be a redirection:  When we took the leap of faith and moved to the South Carolina, it wasn’t a job relocation that brought us here. We just decided to move to warmer weather. My husband found a job and it all worked out. Until my husband’s boss left and the morale at the company took a very deep dip down. He was miserable. I won’t bore you with all those details.

We were stuck in a 2 yr contract. If we broke this contract we would owe a lot of money back to them from the relocation. About a year in he decided to start looking for a new job despite the money we would owe. March of 2016 he had an opportunity to interview at a company he said he would have a slim chance on getting into. They wouldn’t even give him the time of day when we were in Indiana. Most companies don’t want to pay to relocate.

Anyway, he had the interview and was so excited of the hopes of a new job and this company. Sadly, he didn’t get the job. They said it wasn’t the right fit for him. He was devastated. I remember telling him there could still be a chance down the road at this company (because it’s huge). I said we need to trust God that this happened for a reason. We really didn’t want to pay the large sum of money anyway, but he was miserable.

Fast forward to the Fall of 2016 and he got another call to interview there again for a different position. He got the job!!! He had to make it until Dec 8th at his job or we would owe the large amount of money. He decided to ask the new company if they would allow him to start after that date and they agree and even let him start at the beginning of the new year! A fresh clean start! Truly this felt like a miracle. He now gets to work from home and do what he loves and work for an awesome company with good morale! There were MANY disappointments to get to this point. He didn’t give up. He remained faithful. He has been at this new job for a year and it’s been a true blessing.

Delay is not God’s denial. There may be a reason for the delay. Stop focusing so much on the path you want and trust in God.  Circumstances will fail us. People will fail us. But, God will not fail us. Train your brain with the HOPE of Jesus. Learn to look at disappointing situations differently. Pay attention to how you are reacting to challenging times in your life.

Don’t let fear and disappoint keep you from trying again. Trust me, I failed many times before the “light bulb” went off inside me about the way I was eating, drinking and living. Don’t let disappoint ruin your soul.  Get back up and try again.

My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. –Isaiah 55:8-9

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. -Psalm 34:18

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. -Psalms 27:14
